Self-Breast Exam

The main reason that I never did self-breast examinations is because I honestly thought they were a waste of time. I thought this because I didn't really know how to do them properly.

I mentioned in my very first post that the whole thing seemed so complicated. Have you ever seen the handout they give you at the doctor's office? Seriously, it looks like you have to be a doctor or at least some kind of expert to figure it out. I don't usually just find myself naked and alone with extra time on my hands to plop down on the bed and put a pillow under my back, print off a sheet of instructions to make sure I am doing this correctly, and then not even feel like I know enough to really know what it is I would be feeling for.

The ONLY reason it even ever crossed my mind on "that day" was because I am 40 and had been thinking that I needed to schedule an appointment to get my mammogram. And then of course there is the God factor. I feel very sure that he whispered in my ear to give it a try just for the hell of it.

It is my very strong opinion now that my mission in life is going to be to ask every woman I know if she is doing monthly self-breast examinations. It doesn't have to be complicated. You obviously don't need to know what you are doing. You don't have to be a doctor or a breast expert. You don't have to lie down and do all this crazy stuff and stand up and look at your self in the mirror and raise your arms.

Honestly, if us girls weren't so insecure and we actually let our husbands "fondle" them regularly, they would know what they normally felt like and be able to feel the difference when there was a change. I have heard stories of husbands being the one to discover a lump. This could spice up your sex life and possibly save your life. So I say "GO FOR IT"! At least you will have one happy hubby!

The whole point I am trying to make is yes, I am sure that following the self-breast examination instructions and trying to do it like they tell you to is probably very helpful and saves many lives.

BUT, even if all you do is get in the shower, grab some soap and "Feel the Ta-Tas" you actually might discover something. And maybe, you will have just saved your very own life!!!!
